Continue ReadingMy goal at the 2013 conference where I met Alice Speilburg was to make personal connections with the agents, to not worry about pitching to them and instead talk about shared interests. Not only did Alice know me but I knew she was the type of agent I’d want to work with.
I credit DFWCon as one of the major factors that lead to my publication. When I first attended at 18, I had no idea what the publishing industry was all about. In one weekend, I met my future agent (Louise Fury), learned all about the ins and outs of traditional and indie publishing, and learned that it was possible to reach my goals.
My agent (Jennie Goloboy) and I are an unstoppable crime-fighting duo – and DFWcon is the Justice League that brought us together.
Three years ago, I attended my first DFWCon. I didn’t know anything except that I wrote a novel and I wanted to sell it. One year later, I met Michelle Johnson. A chance conversation later about something I wrote for my daughters and I was offered representation for a story I never considered pitching. Sometimes, it really is about being at the right place at the right time. For me, the right place will always be DFWCon.
